About BGCA

Why the BGCA?

The Boys & Girls Club Organization is very important to me. When I was growing up I spent a lot of time at places like Boys & Girls Clubs. These safe havens were a home away from home for me. Boys and Girls Clubs are a great place for kids to learn and grow. My Foundation and I are proud partners with BGCA!!!

LeBron James Clubhouse

I have a special place in my heart for the Boys & Girls Club in Joy Park; not just because I have the honor of it baring my name, but because I remember dreading having to play basketball games there. We would be walking up with coach saying, “Do we really have to play here?” It was not a place kids were excited to go.

Today I am proud to say that has changed! The Joy Park Community Center was transformed into a full-feature clubhouse, servicing between 40 – 60 great kids each day. These kids are monitored by a highly trained and devoted staff who feed them a healthy snack and a hot meal. I love stopping by and checking in on the kids. It reminds me of when I was their age, just a young kid wanting to play with his friends. I’m happy that we can help provide this support for the youth growing up in Akron like I did.

All-Star Weekend

All-Star weekend is a special weekend for me. Not only is it an honor to represent the fans that continue to support me throughout my career, but it is also an opportunity to make an impact on the local community as a way to show my appreciation. It’s important to me that we use this weekend to leave our mark on the community and leave it a little better than we found it.

In order to help me continue this tradition, I’ve brought my 330 Ambassadors with me to help execute our All Star community service. It’s our way of teaching our young adults the importance of giving back and challenging them to find some way to go back to Akron and leave their mark there as well.
