Prom PROMISE 2016

Prom is supposed to be one of the most memorable and magical nights of your high school years. But often times with the obstacles and challenges many Akron students face, the event becomes a source of anxiety and stress. Enter Mrs. Savannah James.

Savannah has a passion for empowering young women and instilling confidence in those that struggle to see their true beauty. That was the genesis of her I PROMise event that started more than four years ago. Now in its fifth iteration, Savannah and the LeBron James Family Foundation hosted 46 girls from Akron pubic high schools as well as St. Vincent – St. Mary’s high school and provided them with a prom dress, accessories, words of encouragement, and other swag. It is Savannah’s hope that this event will empower young women to realize how special and beautiful each and every one of them are, and that they can enjoy making lifelong memories during their stress-free prom experience.

While Savannah was busy uplifting the young women in the room, she had a surprise visitor waiting in the wings. As one of her best friends and biggest supporters, Jada Paul made a surprise appearance to congratulate Savannah on hosting her 5th I PROMise event. With everyone leaving the Hilton’s Grand Ballroom with smiles on their faces and prom dresses draped over their arms, it was another successful event that we hope will lead to a handful of memorable prom nights and a lifetime of confidence.
